It was founded by King Herod the Great in the 1st century BC and was named after Julius Caesar. the ancient city of Caesarea is a popular tourist destination, featuring well-preserved Roman ruins, such as a theater, an amphitheater, a palace, and a harbor. The site also includes an impressive aqueduct, a hippodrome, and a bathhouse.
